Nearly one million immigrants came to Canada through Pier 21, and it is the last surviving seaport immigration facility in Canada. The facility is often compared to the landmark American immigration gateway Ellis Island.Pier 21 is now operated as an immigration museum.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e0eca16 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"e0eca16\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18e4a8d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"18e4a8d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The<strong> Halifax Public Gardens<\/strong> are Victorian-era public gardens formally established in 1867, the year of Canadian Confederation. The gardens are located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the Halifax Peninsula near the popular shopping district of Spring Garden Road and opposite Victoria Park. The gardens were designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1984.<\/p><p>The Public Gardens encompass 16 acres and are bounded by Spring Garden Road, South Park Street, Summer Street and Sackville Street. They are open, conditions permitting, year-round. The landscaping style is Victorian formal and provides a popular setting for wedding and prom photos. In addition to statues and extensive flower beds, there are three fountains, two stone bridges, three ponds (one large and two small), and a small concession building (located in the original Horticultural Hall). The gardens also feature a bandstand that is used for free public concerts on Sunday afternoons during the summer. Four fortifications have been constructed on Citadel Hill since the city was founded by the English in 1749, and were referred to as Fort George\u2014but only the third fort (built between 1794 and 1800) was officially named\u00a0<b>Fort George<\/b>. According to General Orders of October 20, 1798, it was named after King George III. The first two and the fourth and current fort, were officially called the\u00a0<b>Halifax Citadel<\/b>.
