iMERIT
iMERIT (Interdisciplinary Marine Engineering Research and Industrial Training) is an NSERC CREATE grant based at Dalhousie University, the University of New Brunswick, the University of Prince Edward Island and Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) initiative is focused on providing a value-added experience to the university training environment.
The iMERIT grant program brings together researchers, innovators and professionals from academia, industry, professional organizations and government agencies to carry out research and training in marine technology, to address challenges of ocean exploration and to facilitate trainees’ smooth transition from university education into an industrial career.
iMerit is comprised of a diverse group of individuals, including co-applicants seeking new opportunities, collaborators working together to drive innovation, and students eager to learn and grow. each member contributes to the overall success and development of the organization. Through the collective efforts of these co-applicants, collaborators, and students, iMerit continues to evolve, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in their field.
Training is focused around four main themes: Autonomous Marine Systems; Acoustic, Fiber Optical, and In-situ Sensing; Marine Electronics and Controls; and Big Data Analytics for Marine Research).
The focus of the iMERIT program is to facilitate effective collaborations to address the challenges in ocean exploration. The trainees in the iMERIT program will gain experience through four research themes:
The iMERIT event was successfully held with strong participation from students, faculty members, and industry partners. The event provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, professional development, and networking across interdisciplinary fields. Through engaging presentations, discussions, and interactive sessions, participants gained practical insights into industry trends, research applications, and career pathways.
